BHUBANESWAR: Tourism Minister Debi Prasad Mishra has called upon the domestic tour operators to highlight Orissa as a tourism destination as the State has tremendous potential.

Addressing the all-India domestic tour operators conference as the chief guest here today, the Minister said that the State has many destinations to attract domestic tourists.

The tourism ministry has made it clear to the states that their tourism projects would be taken up on priority basis if they came up with concrete plans for solid waste management and providing wayside amenities on the state and the national highways along the route to tourist destinations or tourist circuits.

Ranchi, Feb. 3: State tourism minister Sudha Choudhary is busy figuring out ways to boost tourism in Jharkhand and has made developing Betla and Netarhat her priority.

The biggest challenge facing the minister now is deciding where to start. According to Choudhary, her predecessors only squandered money and did little to attract tourists.

The Union Ministry of Tourism is providing financial assistance to the State Governments in the Northeastern region for development of tourism projects based on the proposals received from the States.

EQUATIONS was invited by the Member Planning Commission Mr Arun Maira in November 2009 to write about our vision for tourism for India. This came about after a series of discussions with him about our concerns related to tourism development in India and how the Planning Process of the Five Year plans should take these into account.

The state government has allocated Rs 3.84 crore for developing tourist facilities at Burhanpur and Samardha eco-tourism centres of the state.

Out of Rs 3.84 crore sanctioned by the Union Tourism Ministry for the development of tourist facilities in Madhya Pradesh, a sum of Rs 3.50 crore has been earmarked for Burhanpur and Rs 34.45 lakh for Samardha, an official release said.

With the Centre sanctioning Rs 70 lakh for the development and maintenance of Dal Lake, situated in the lap of Dhauladhar ranges at Naddi in upper Dharamshala, the efforts of the district administration to bring the lake back to life have borne fruits.

Though Governments in India are elected for a five-year term, the first few months set the tone and provide early hints about the course it plans to take.

TOURISM ministry has warned states that it will stop funding infrastructure projects in case works do not start within a year due to non-availability of land.

The ministry has an annual budget of Rs 522 crore for tourism infrastructure.
