French car maker Peugeot will put up its public face in India at the Auto Expo in New Delhi in January next year. Its stall will be located in proximity to that of Volkswagen (VW). The German manufacturer will be Peugeot’s closest competitor in India.

Ahmedabad PSA Peugeot Citroën, France’s largest carmaker and Europe’s second largest, will invest R4,000 crore to build a factory at Sanand near Ahmedabad for 1,65,000 cars yearly and creating 5,000 direct jobs. The integrated manufacturing plant, which will come up in 600 acre, will roll out its first Peugeot car in 2014, over a decade after the company left India following a bitter parting with its former partner Premier Automobiles.

State government sources indicated that the stage is all set for clinching a deal with French car manufacturer PSA Peugeot for setting up R4,000-crore four-lakh-cars-a-year plant in the vicinity of the Ford and Nano facilities at Sanand. Sources said the four member team representing Europe’s second largest car maker comprising Gregoire Olivier, CEO of the Asian operations of PSA Peugeot Citreon and Frederic Fabre, MD of PSA Peugeot’s India project are visiting Ahmedabad on Thursday to sign an MOU for the project with the state government.
