The people of Assam are likely to get a respite in the current summer season as a power tariff is unlikely with the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) and its subsidiary companies are yet to place its demands to the Assam State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) and as per the regulations, the Commission will have to give its orders within 120 days from the date of placing of the demands.

The power generation capacity in the state has risen by 2937 megawatts during the last four years. With an extension unit of Amarkantak thermal power plant becoming critical soon, 210 MW more is going to be added to this capacity. Giving utmost importance to power, the state government has provided MP State Electricity Board and its companies Rs 939 crore as capital investment.

Shimla - Dhumal meets Power Minister in Delhi The Union Ministry of Power has left the issue of trifurcation of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) on the state government. In a meeting of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in Delhi today, the issue of trifurcation of the HPSEB came up, where Shinde is reported to have given the state a free hand on the issue.

Open Access System Will Allow People To Purchase Power Freely With the Assembly elections approaching, Delhi government has finally empowered Delhiites to choose discoms with a better image in over those with numerous complaints against them in the last six years. The open access system will allow people to take power from the discoms they want, irrespective of where they live. Power department officials said that making the three companies compete with one another is the only way of ensuring good performance.

For the second consecutive day today and much to the embarrassment of the CPI-M leadership, Raj Bhavan, plunged into darkness for an hour this evening. Power in the palatial building was also switched off for an hour in the afternoon. A Raj Bhavan spokesperson pointed out that a decision is yet to be arrived at as to when the power situation at Raj Bhavan will return to normalcy.

The State Power Department has prepared a Cabinet Memorandum proposing amalgamation of its three distribution companies into one and outsourcing some functions in a select number of urban and rural electrical circles. Stating this at a press conference here this afternoon, Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi said that the re-bundling of the distribution companies would of course be done by setting some benchmark for quality improvement, while outsourcing was proposed as a pilot project.

Power equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) is all set to finalise separate joint ventures with the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Company (APGenco) and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, close on the heels of its first joint venture company, NTPC-Bhel Power Projects, which was formed last month. As a first step, the country's largest power equipment supplier will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the APGenco for supplying equipment for a 125-mw plant, which is expected to come up at Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh, shortly.
