THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the scorching summer heat triggering a soaring demand for drinking water, much more than what the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) can purify and supply, a high-level meeting held here on Thursday charted out an action plan to bring water to the parched high-level areas and other regions of the city hit hard by water scarcity.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 30 persons were hospitalised after they suffered discomfort following the leakage of chlorine at Vellaykadavu within the Vilappilsala Police Station limits here on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, an unused chlorine cylinder had leaked by around 6.30 p.m.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The systematic and scientific disposal of plastic and biodegradable waste by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation was the cream of all surprises gifted by the Corporation to Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams.

KOCHI: The Parliamentary Committee on Energy will recommend to the Union government to increase the support for research projects like application of nanotechnology in solar cells, P.C. Chacko, MP, has said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After homes, incandescent bulbs are to be shooed out from the streets also. Decision is now awaited on a scheme for replacing incandescent bulbs used in streetlights with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs).

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Keeping its word on reducing the waste heaps at Vilappilsala treatment plant, the Corporation has decided to set up biogas plants in major markets in the city. The step is as part of the decentralisation of waste treatment, which is one of the main focus areas of the final-year programmes envisaged by the present Council.
