The issue for consideration was the remedial action against illegal operation of brick kilns in district Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh where 600 brick kilns were illegally operating. The Additional District Magistrate, Ghaziabad in its report September 14, 2020 has said that the brick kilns have been closed.

The issue for consideration is the remedial action against illegal operation of brick kilns in District Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh (UP) where 600 brick kilns were illegally operating. The applicant has alleged that all the brick kilns were located within 50 to 500 meters east or west of the village habitations resulting in cancer and asthma to 40% inhabitants.
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Vikas Singh Vs Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board & Others dated 24/01/2019 regarding brick kilns operating in violation of the Uttar Pradesh Brick Kiln Rules, 2012. According to the applicant, 146 brick kilns are operating in district Hapur. 124 are operating without Consent to Operate and 88 are operating without Environmental Clearance. The operation of the brick kilns is causing huge air pollution.
