Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Aditya Singh Chauhan Vs State of Gujarat dated 06/02/2020 regarding discharge of untreated effluents into Sabarmati river from the CETP, Narol, Ahmedabad. The discharge was adversely affecting the environment and the inhabitants. The CETP is operated by M/s Narol Textile Infrastructure and Enviro Management. Report submitted by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) acknowledged that the CETP was not meeting the parameters, causing pollution of Sabarmati river.
In view of the said report, the Tribunal directed recovery of compensation, reduction of pollution load by decreasing capacity of the units contributing to the pollution and to take further remedial steps. Also the pollution control board has been asked to recondider the formula applied to come up with environmental compensation.
In view of the above, the tribunal directed that a joint committee of Central Pollution Control Board and GPCB reviews the compensation and a further action taken report be submitted.
