Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of SK. Mujibar Rehman Vs State of West Bengal dated 16/03/2023.

Grievance in this application is against filling up of a water body within the mill premises of Howrah Jute Mills at G.T Road, Howrah (South), Kolkata. The said water body was in existence for the last hundred years. Further allegation is of illegal cutting of more than one thousand fully grown trees for construction purposes. The applicant represents a union of workers.

The NGT directed the West Bengal Pollution Control Board, State Wetland Authority, Divisional Forest Officer, Kolkata and District Magistrate, Howrah South to take action following due process of law. The SPCB would be the nodal agency for coordination and compliance.
