Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding groundwater pollution by Aditya Birla Chemicals, Rehla, District Palaamu, Jharkhand, 03/05/2019
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Anwar Hussain Ansari, Jhamumo Alpsankhayak Morcha Vs State of Jharkhand dated 03/05/2019 regarding pollution of the ground water by M/s Aditya Birla Chemicals, Rehla, District Palaamu on account of fly ash produced by industrial process. It was also alleged that groundwater was being used for making caustic soda and thereafter toxic effluents were being discharged without safeguards affecting the public health in Palaamu District.
The inspection reports conducted by the state PCB and CPCB has found that the unit (M/s Grasim Industries Limited, Chemical Division at Mouza) was causing pollution and the Tribunal has asked for a report of the assessment and recovery of damages by the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB).
