Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding pollution of Riwalsar lake in district Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, 29/06/2020
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Lama Sushil Dewa Vs State of Himachal Pradesh dated 29/06/2020 regarding pollution of Riwalsar lake in district Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
A report filed by the District Magistrate, Mandi informed the NGT that surroundings of the lake are thoroughly cleaned everyday by Nagar Panchayat, Rewalsar. Further drains had been constructed around the lake to prevent waste from entering the lake and these drains were also cleaned regularly by Nagar Panchayat Rewalsar.
Hotels and houses/residential accommodation in Rewalsar have their own septic tanks. However, a new sewerage network scheme worth Rs 1.5 crore had been sanctioned for the town and currently being constructed by Irrigation & Public Health Department. In addition, the septic tank of main Budhist temple, managed by Mahabudhi Niyangmapa Society Rewalsar in ward No. 5 was quite far from the lake.
The NGT disposed of the application with the direction that continuous efforts for protection of the lake should be taken.
