Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding stone crushers operating illegally in District Sahebganj, Jharkhand, 02/09/2019
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Pradeep Kumar Singh Vs State of Jharkhand dated 02/09/2019 regarding illegally operating stone crushers affecting the ecology and wildlife in villages Choti Bhagiamari, Ambadih, Motijharna and Kalyani in District Sahebganj, Jharkhand.
Report submitted by the District Magistrate, Sahebganj and the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) shows that ‘Consent to Operate’ has expired in respect of certain crushers and mining leases and there has been non-compliance of the conditions of consent in some cases. Direction has been issued to close the violating units till compliance.
The Tribunal asks for submission of a fresh report as the report was not clear on whether closure of illegal stone crushers has actually taken place and there has been no material to show whether "compensation on ‘Polluter Pays’ principle has been collected from the violators."
