Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding unscientific dumping of bio-medical waste in open in Bijoli area of Jhansi district, Uttar Pradesh
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Ravi Sharma Vs State of Uttar Pradesh dated 18/01/2021. The matter related to the allegation of unscientific dumping of bio-medical waste in open in Bijoli area of Jhansi district, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in pollution of air, water and land and causing diseases to the inhabitants of the area.
The UPPCB in its report to the NGT, January 15, 2021 stated that M/S Medical Pollution Control Committee, (CBWTF), Growth Central, Industrial Area, Bijoli, Jhansi had not deposited the Environmental Compensation of Rs. 7,41,000.00 imposed by the State PCB.
The court directed the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to take appropriate follow up action for compliance of norms and recovery of compensation for the past defaults. Upgradation of air pollution control devices to meet the new emissions norms, including dioxins and furans management and installation should be expeditiously ensured. The environmental compensation already assessed must be recovered, the NGT in its order of January 18, 2021 said.
