Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding waterbody encroachment and pollution, Singur, Hooghly, West Bengal, 08/09/2021
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Krishna Chandra Santra & Others Vs Pollution Control Board, West Bengal & Others dated 08/09/2021. The matter related to encroachment of a water body, Singur, Hooghly. The Block Land and Land Reforms Officer, Singur has said that the encroachments were not removed and restoration of the waterbody to its original character has yet to be carried out.
The NGT, Eastern Bench granted three weeks time to the authorities to remove the encroachment in the water body and restore the water body to its original character. Further, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board has been asked to file an affidavit - mentioning the amount imposed by way of environmental compensation against the encroachers including penalty for violation of the environmental norms and the cost for restoration and restitution of the water body to its original character.
