Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding solid waste management in India, 10/07/2018

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of In Re: Outrage as Parents End Life After Child's Dengue dated 10/07/2018 regarding solid waste management in India.

Supreme Court asks who is responsible for clearing the garbage in Delhi – those answerable to the Lt. Governor or those answerable to the Chief Minister as there is mountain loads of garbage particularly in Bhalswa, Okhla and Ghazipur. Supreme Court directs an affidavit to be filed by the concerned officer of both the functionaries. 

Supreme Court expresses shock that even after two years down the line "more than two-third of the States / UTs in the country have not yet complied with the basic requirement of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016". The Court further imposed costs of Rs.1,00,000/- on those states / UTs who have neither bothered to comply with the orders passed by the Court or bothered to comply with the directions given by the MoEF, Government of India. One final opportunity is given to these States / UTs to comply with the laws governing India failing which the Court "may have to call the Chief Secretary of the concerned States / UTs to inform why the laws governing India are not applicable to these States / UTs.
