Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding unhygienic conditions prevailing around Shri Jagannath Temple at Puri, Odisha, 08/06/2018
Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Mrinalini Padhi Vs Union of India & Others dated 08/06/2018 regarding unhygienic conditions prevailing around Shri Jagannath Temple at Puri. Also there are encroachments. It is also mentioned that there are deficiencies in the management of the Shrine and rituals are commercialised.
Supreme Court directs the District Judge, Puri to give a report on (a) Difficulties faced by the visitors; (b) Exploitative practices, if any; (c) Deficiencies in the management, if any; (d) Suggestions, if any. The Apex Court further directs the State of Orissa to constitute a Committee to study the management schemes in other important shrines of India and submit a report by June 30, 2018. The Union of India has been directed to constitute a committee to collect information with regard to such other shrines so that the management practices therein can be reviewed for the benefit of all visitors, wherever necessary. Supreme Court appoints Gopal Subramanium, Senior Counsel as Amicus Curiae to assist the Court. The Amicus Curiae may collate the above reports and give his suggestions for further consideration.
