Order of the Supreme Court regarding Chandrapura lake, Karnataka, 27/02/2023

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of State of Karnataka Vs Central Pollution Control Board dated 27/02/2023.

Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General appearing for the state of Karnataka submitted that on principle, the state government is also interested in adopting all restoration measures noticed by the NGT in reference to the damage caused to the Chandrapura lake.

The only grievance is that the reserve fund of Rs. 500 crores as ordered by the NGT in one go should be split into three-four years so that other projects of the state may not be hampered.

The SC listed the matter for March 20 and asked the Solicitor General to take instructions and place on record the scheduled action plan prepared by the Karnataka government in reference to the alleged pollution of Chandrapura lake and future steps be taken in implementing the order of the tribunal.
