Report by Kolhapur Municipal Corporation on steps taken to prevent disposal of sewage into Panchganga river, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, 24/02/2021
Report/submissions on behalf of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation in the matter of Dr. Balakrishna A. Shelar Vs State of Maharashtra dated 24/02/2021.
The NGT in its order of July 16, 2020 directed the Irrigation Department to complete the process of demarcation of the red and blue line expeditiously. The court also directed the KMC and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to take necessary steps for preventing discharge of untreated effluents and sewage into the Panchganga river.
The KMC has "continuously taken up follow up for demarcation of the remaining part of red and blue line with the Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department, Pune" the report said. A total of 3.5 kilometer length along the river is yet to be demarcated - thus the demarcation of the red/blue/green line is incomplete. It is further stated that the KMC had published list of Gat numbers and survey numbers which fell in the prohibited zone (area between the river bank and blue line). KMC has ensured that no untreated sewage was discharged into the Panchganga river.
