Report by Wetland Authority of Delhi on construction of 10 wetlands / waterbodies at Asola Wildlife Sanctuary, Delhi, 04/12/2024

Report by Wetland Authority of Delhi in OA No 513 of 2024 news item titled "10 wetlands in Asola to conserve rainwater" appearing in the Times of India dated March 12, 2024.

The report dated December 4, 2024 is in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order dated May 10, 2024. The application related to the plan of officials at Asola Wildlife Sanctuary and South Forest Division, under the Delhi Forest and Wildlife Department to conserve water in monsoon through refurbished wetlands. The news item stated that the officials have identified 10 major wetlands in South Delhi's forest area.

A joint visit was conducted June 11, 2024 to inspect the ten water bodies in Asola wildlife sanctuary, South Delhi's forest area with the officials of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Forest Department and Wetland Authority of Delhi.

A detailed report on the construction of 10 new water bodies in Maidan Garhi, Sahoopur and Satbari areas, where the depletion of the groundwater table has been occurring at a very fast rate over the last 10 years has been received from the Department of Forest and Wildlife South Division.

The Forest Department report stated that the construction of water bodies is divided into two phases. Many of the works like tree plantation surrounding water bodies, dredging and proper bunding work have been completed in many places. Plantation of Doob grass and shrubs on the bunds of water bodies have also been completed in many places.
