In Uisiya village of Noamundi block, a group of young enthusiasts undertook the task of protecting the adjoining degraded sal forests in 1988. Laguri jee and Niranjan Bobonga, the traditional headpersons of the area, rallied the people into preventing cattle from trespassing into the region. They successfully convinced the people that the regeneration of the forests will ensure a regular and sufficient supply of firewood, besides helping in the yield of crops.
In Patamda block's Poklabera village, Neemai Singh Sardar, a Bhumij tribal, having savoured the fruits of affluence through his efforts in a social forestry programme, was able to successfully convince fellow villagers that the village would gain by the regeneration of the local forest tracts. The prevention of grazing by appointing a community guard helped this process.
