THE Construction of an international airport at Devanahalli near Bangalore, which was stalled for acquiring approval from the state pollution control board (SPCB) and the Union ministry of environment and forests, would finally be completed, said Karnataka chief minister J H Patel recently.
While the state government had green signalled the project, the Centre seemed to dither over it. Opposition member, H N Nanje Gowda, alleged that the site chosen for the airport at Devanahalli would cause water pollution in the nearby valley. The Supreme Court had ordered that the Karnataka SPCB should deliberate upon the issue. It was further alleged that the government seemed to be buckling under pressure from land developers.
