LIONS SET FREE

A Mumbai court has ordered the release of five blind lions and lionesses that were performing for the Golden Circus. The tigers will now be kept in the Borivilli National Park. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had instructed the Union environment and forest ministry to consider the 1991 ban on the use of animals in circuses. Two months ago, a study conducted by the Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had said that animals can be trained to perform in a humane manner as well as transported more comfortably from city to city. Keepin this in mind, the High Court had asked the ministry to review its decision on the ban.
