For those who toss and turn in bed hoping for at least a wink of sleep, here is some good news. Scientists from the Scripps Research Institution at La Jolla, California, US, have just synthesised certain new chemicals that would coax the human brain into slumber. Conventional sleeping pills that fail to mimic the natural sleep-inducing molecule oleamide produced by the body, have proved ineffective. The new chemicals fool and disintegrate the very enzymes that break the sleep-inducer down.
