a last-minute gift of us $1.5 million from an anonymous donor helped a Washington State Conservation Group meet its deadline for raising us $13.1 million to save a patch of state-owned forest from the loggers' chainsaws.
According to the chairperson of the group, Fred Munson, the anonymous donation came just as the Loomis Forest Fund was about to ask the state for more time and pushed the fund over the top. However, they still need to raise us $700,000 to meet the expenses related to transactions, though they have acquired the us $13 million, which is the appraised value for the land.
The120-year-old woods is part of the Loomis Forest, 130 km northeast of Seattle. It hosts the healthiest population of lynx as well as rare grizzly bears and wolverines. Originally, the land was a part of two million acres set aside to generate revenues for state education funding.
