Rajahmundry: Urbanisation and migration of wage seekers is the cause of the sharp rise in slums in the city.

In East Godavari, both the commercial city Rajahmundry and port city Kakinada are plagued with increasing slums in the last decade. As per Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) statistics gathered by East Godavari unit, 92 slums exist in Rajahmundry and 98 in Kakinada.
