Taxing time for Texaco

Texaco, the us-based giant oil company, is in the line of fire as Peruvian rainforest Indians plan to drag it to court on charges of polluting their land and thereby increasing cancer infection risks. The Indians have already filed a suit against Texaco in the US District Court, New York, demanding US $1 billion. Indians allege that during the past 2 decades the company has been indiscriminately dumping millions of litres of oil into rivers running through Ecuador and Peru. The lawsuit said that Texaco even designed 400 wells in Ecuador despite being aware that large amounts of oil would leak into Peru.
