The oil firm Shell cannot be allowed to withdraw from the Niger delta before it takes responsibility for its toxic legacy of pollution and the safe decommissioning of abandoned oil infrastructure, a report says.

A private television news channel reported about heavy traces of oil being found in Buckingham Canal consequently reaching the Ennore Creek, which stuck on the vessels/boats used by the fishermen affecting their activities.

Joint inspection report of Committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal, Southern Bench, Chennai in pursuance to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order, September 8, 2020 in the matter of Venkatapathi Raja Yenumala Vs Union of India & Others). The matter relates to leak of furnace oil in the premises of the Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPs), operated by the Damodar Valley Corporation, which the applicant says affected the Damodar river, its tributaries and adjoining areas. The report says that the Committee has incorrect information about the date of the incident, which happened on October 13, 2019 and not October 15, 2019.
