Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding pollution caused by M/s. J. B. Daruka Paper Limited, District Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, 05/07/2019
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Ram Sharan Vs State of Uttar Pradesh dated 05/07/2019 regarding pollution caused by M/s. J. B. Daruka Paper Limited, District Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh resulting in death of animals in the area.
A joint report submitted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) shows several violations including one borewell being installed without any permission and period for permission in respect of the two tubewells having expired. There is illegal extraction of ground water and no flow meter for recycling of the effluents. The NGT directs for a further action taken report to be furnished by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA). The committee has been directed to assess the compensation within a month and pending such assessment, a sum of Rs. 10 lakhs would be recovered from the unit, by way of interim compensation. The Committee has also been asked to examine whether hardness of water is because of the geogenic reasons or contamination.
