Question raised in Lok Sabha on pollution in ground water by industries, 23/07/2015. As per ground water resources assessments (as on March 2011), gross ground water draft for all uses in respect of Sirohi district is 310.61 MCM (Million Cubic Metre), which includes cumulative ground water withdrawal for Domestic/Agriculture/Industrial use. Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) constituted under Section 3(3) of The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 has framed up guidelines for extraction of ground water which were issued on 15.11.2012. In areas notified by the CGWA, ‘No Objection Certificate (NOC)’ to extract ground water through any energized means is not accorded except for drinking and domestic use. In non-notified areas, CGWA accords NOC for extraction of ground water to new or under expansion projects of industrial/infrastructure/mining, in accordance with the guidelines/criteria. NOC are to be renewed after fixed period of time, ensuring compliance of conditions laid in NOC. The NOCs issued so far by CGWA to industries for groundwater abstraction in Sirohi district is given in Annexure.
