Sacred groves are traditionally managed forest patches of palaeo-endemics, which are conserved due to religious beliefs and represent climax vegetation. Sometimes these groves have higher richness and regeneration of medicinal and other economic plants than other reserve forests. (Correspondence)

Sacred groves are (small or large) patches of vegetation of varying sizes, conserved on the basis of the religious beliefs of the community. In India 13,720 sacred groves have been identified from 19 states and named differently in various parts of India as Law lyngdhoh in Meghalaya, Kovil Kadu in Kanyakumari, Dev Bhumi in Uttarakhand, etc.

Out of the 12 notified bird sanctuaries of Uttar Pradesh, six bird sanctuaries namely - Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, Unnao District, Sur Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, Agra District, Patna Bird Sanctuary, Etah, Saman Bird Sanctuary, Mainpuri, Parvati Aranga Bird Sanctuary, Gonda and Bakhira Bird Sanctuary, Sant Kabir Nagar were surveyed for the inventorisation of aquatic plants growing in and around these h
