The CNG conversion kits prices reached historic peak after witnessing 10 percent further increase following the fresh hike in petroleum products. The prices of CNG kits were earlier increased twice soon after the increase in gasoline rates, which had been raised four times during the last two months.

The government has increased petroleum products' prices for next 15 days by Rs 3 per litre except kerosene oil to pass on the impact of surge in international market rates to the consumers. The new prices will be effective from May 1 (today).

The Minister for Water and Power, Pervez Ashraf, on Wednesday refused to follow Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's directive on 'free of cost' provision of energy saver bulbs to consumers. Prime Minister Gilani in his first speech in the National Assembly had announced that 10 million energy savers would be provided to consumers free of cost.

The government on Thursday has increased the prices of all oil products by Rs 3 per litre except kerosene oil. Kerosene oil price has been kept at the previous level to basically protect the poor from additional financial burden, who use it as fuel. Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, excluded the kerosene oil from increase in price on the personal request of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has issued a notification of the new prices of petroleum products, to be effective from April 16.

Federal government has agreed to continue to prepare short-term policy recommendations and awareness-building under ongoing new ADB financing project "Sustainable Energy Efficiency Development Programme". Under this programme, new government will further develop recommendations for removing the institutional bottlenecks to government-sponsored energy efficiency and conservation programmes and support mechanisms playing a more effective role in nurturing a nascent energy efficiency industry and consumer culture.
