Rajahmundry, Nov. 25: The state government issued an order declaring Papikonda Wildlife Sanctuary as a National Park recently. The government issued GO No. 144 declaring the wildlife sanctuary as a national park to be developed in an area covering about 1,012.85 square kilometres.

Nellore, Nov. 25: In a bid to stop tuberculosis from becoming multi drug resistant, a charitable organisation has been roping in the services of locals to monitor the TB patients in Nellore. The organisation, Damien Foundation India Trust (DFIT) has been entrusting the job of administering the drugs for the patients to the locals.

Ongole, Nov. 25: Until two decades ago, Rajupalem Lakshmi Puram, Ramatheertham and Chimakurthi were nondescript villages. But things suddenly changed when a unique form of granite was discovered in the 1,000 acres of land contiguous to these villages.

Ongole, Nov. 25: Recently, the mines department in the state discovered enor-mous granite stocks beneath the road between Chimakurthi and Rajupalem-Laksh-mipuram. The department estimates that if the granite is excavated form beneath the road, the government could earn a royalty of at least Rs 500 crore.

Ongole, Nov. 25: The global meltdown has badly affected the exports of the world famous galaxy granite from Chimakurthi of Prakasam district. Chimakurthi, located about 25 km from Ongole on the Kurnool Road, is famous for a rare type of black granite which is not found anywhere else in the world. It is exported to all corners of the globe.

Hyderabad, Nov. 24: The rising pollution level is taking a heavy toll on the heritage structures and historical artefacts in the state. In the old city area, near Charminar, sulphur dioxide levels have increased from 5.2 to 5.4 micrograms per metre cube and nitrogen oxide levels from 34 to 36.3 micrograms per metre cube.

Nov. 23: The Cy6erabad police on Sunday recovered a tiger skin at Yadgaarpally near Keesara. The Keesara police inspector, Mr T. Manohar Reddy, said, "A passerby informed us that a tiger skin was lying in the bushes beside Yadgaarpally road near Keesara. We inspected the area end found a tiger skin and 39 tiger nails."
