NEW DELHI: The numbers say it all. The extent of encroachment of protected Aravali forest land by land sharks in Faridabad and Gurgaon is evident from the number of cases filed against violators, and the convictions, in the past decade.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC) has stated in its additional report filed last week that it will treat the entire Aravalli range area as a prohibited zone for mining, barring specific locations, to ensure their environmental sustainability.

New Delhi: The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) has started the process of identifying constructions encroaching on the Aravali range in Faridabad.

In the past, several farmhouses have been demolished in Gurgaon for being on forest land and for not having the relevant clearances.

Faridabad: Private developers in Faridabad in recent years have invaded the Aravalis with a vengeance. Officials claim over 2,000-2,500 acres of forest land have been put to non-forest use including residential, educational and religious institutions and a handful of trusts.

NEW DELHI: Having recommended that constructions encroaching on the Aravali range in Faridabad be demolished, the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) appointed by the Supreme Court has turned its gaze upon Gurgaon. Committee sources told TOI that approximately 2,000 farmhouses in Gurgaon are under the scanner. The final report will be submitted by March 15.

Rejecting the plea of miners in the Aravalli ranges for immediate relief, the Supreme Court today asked the Haryana and Rajasthan governments and the mine owners to file their response to the Central Empowered Committee's (CEC) report recommending a blanket ban on mining in the hills.
