A year after its joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra got off the ground, French car maker Renault has decided to revise its sales strategy for India following the Logan's lacklustre performance.

The JV begun selling the mid-sized sedan in April-May last year through M&M's dealerships across the country.

NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki on Monday reported a net profit of Rs. 465.90 crore in the first quarter of 2008-09, against Rs. 499.60 crore during the same period in the previous year. Net sales stood at Rs. 4,731 crore, a growth of 20.9 per cent over the same period of the previous year.

However, the company said the profit figures were not comparable due to the additional impact of Rs. 61.90 crore resulting from the new depreciation policy introduced in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008.

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki saw net profit slide 6.75 per cent for the first quarter ended June 2008, from the same period last year, mostly on account of rising raw material costs, a change in accounting norms and a loss from derivative instruments.

Q1 net profit stood at Rs 465.8 crore against Rs 499.6 crore in Q1 of the last financial year, which was below analysts' expectations. Revenue growth at 21 per cent over the same period previous quarter to Rs 4,753.5 crore, however, was in line with the forecasts.

Maruti Suzuki, the country's top carmaker, reported a 6.7% drop in the first quarter (April-June, 2008-09) profit on Monday at Rs 465.8 crore against Rs 499.6 crore in the same quarter last financial year (2007-08), due to higher depreciation charge, royalty outgo and manufacturing costs.

Energy bureau to give star ratings to cars as per fuel efficiency, five stars for over 25.6 km per litre

New Delhi, July 18: Your new set of wheels is going to get its stars.

In a first of its kind venture, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is embarking on a fuel efficiency labelling programme, in which cars will be assigned star-rating according to fuel efficiency.

A voluntary start will be made this year. A similar programme of star-ratings is currently on for marking energy saving efficiency in electrical goods like refrigerators.
