Cashing in on high fuel prices, electric bike manufacturers are planning to expand their businesses in the Indian market.

THE European branch of world's largest car maker, Toyota became the first four wheeler manufacturer to join the Climate Neutral Network (CN Net), a UN initiative bringing together organisations pledging to reduce carbon emissions on Tuesday.
Toyota Motor Europe is one of the six companies to join CN Net on Tuesday, a web-based network which impresses upon governments, local authorities, private companies and individuals to make large carbon cuts.

TRAVERSE CITY, Michigan: General Motors said Thursday that it had "essentially finished" designing its first plug-in hybrid car, the Chevrolet Volt, and would have production-ready prototypes within 10 days.

The automaker still has considerable work to do on the car's lithium-ion battery and other technology in the two years before the Volt is scheduled to go on sale, but completing the design is a milestone for what is arguably the most crucial car in decades for GM.

The India Today Group and German publishing firm Axel Springer have launched a fortnightly auto magazine Auto Bild. According to Ashish Bagga, the ceo of the India Today Group,

The battle between Toyota and Honda for supremacy in the hybrid petrol-electric car market is set to heat up with both Japanese carmakers set to introduce distinctive new models early next year.

Honda disclosed details on Wednesday of a hybrid hatchback that will be smaller and cheaper than its existing Civic hybrid sedan.

Toyota is due to unveil a larger version of its popular Prius. It has so far kept a low profile on the new model to avoid damping sales of the existing Prius.

Chennai, Aug. 1: Rising interest rates, fuel prices, inflation and the shaky quarterly results finally seem to be catching on the resilient auto industry. The passenger vehicle segment, which has been weathering the market forces for the last few months, registered a subdued growth in sales during July.

Hero Electric is planning to launch high-end models of electric scooters with higher speed and bigger looks, once it receives approvals from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). On obtaining certification by ARAI, the company will launch these vehicles in the same month.

THE collapse of world trade talks could be a boon to Australia's ailing carmakers, making it easier for the government to keep tariffs on imported cars, an analyst said on Thursday.

The comments came as Australia's left-leaning Labour government received a report into the car industry, with manufacturers and trade unions urging it to slow planned tariff cuts in order to protect the sector and 60,000 local jobs.
