Andhra Pradesh tribals live in pathetic conditions, with little or no access to health care

For decades, democracy remained a distant dream for the aboriginal Chenchu tribes in the Nallamala hill ranges of Andhra Pradesh. They hardly had a chance to vote freely, caught in the crossfire between the Maoists and the police.

Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday claimed that his government was fast implementing its promise to expand education to the remote areas and let the youth benefit from institutions of higher education at their doorsteps. He said both at school and higher education level the State had witnessed unprecedented growth and infrastructure development during the past four years.

Within two months of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanding a development package for the Bundelkhand region, the Planning Commission has firmed up a proposal to set up a 4,000-Mw power plant there.
