Animal sacrifice in the world famous Kamakhya temple and other puja pandals on the occasion of Durga Puja may be a common practice, but prominent citizens and NGOs here have protested against such ritual.
Demanding a ban on such practices, the NGO, People for Animal, said there was no such concept of sacrificing animals in the name of gods and goddesses.
Expressing concern over the increase in pollution levels in water-bodies following immersion of idols after Durga Puja, the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) today said that no satisfactory actions were being initiated by the district administration and the local authorities concerned on the direction issued by the Board in connection with idol immersion.
The much awaited festival of Durga Puja will strongly convey the message for protecting the environment and thereby secure the future of the human generation.
Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain today said that the State Government was trying to settle the land acquisition process for extending the area of Kaziranga National Park.
He said that once the legal process was completed for the six subsequent additions, the park area would gain a substantial extension from its present area of 430 sq km.
