Proceedings were initiated suo-motu in view of media report about gas leak at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, affecting the health of 178 women workers.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Union of India & Others Vs M/s. Union Carbide Corporation & Others dated 11/10/2022.

Attorney General, R. Venkataramani informed the Supreme Court (SC) that the government of India would like to press forward with the curative petition against Union Carbide Corporation seeking additional compensation to the victims of Bhopal gas tragedy. A number of NGOs seek to be added as parties to the curative petition.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of In re : News item published in The Hindu dated 25.07.2022 titled “Explosion in Bihar illegal firecracker unit kills five” dated 13/09/2022.

The NGT held that industrial incidents resulting in loss of lives is on account of failure to follow the environmental safety norms. The court was hearing the case of an illegal firecracker unit catching fire, July 24, 2022 and resulting in the death of five people.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of In re: News item published in The Indian Express dated 05.06.2022 titled “12 dead in fire at Hapur factory that ‘produced firecrackers illegally’ : ‘Saw people with burns jumping into drains”.

The matter has been taken up suo motu on the basis of a media report of death of 12 persons and injury to 13 persons in a factory fire at Ruhi Industries, Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, operating in violation of environmental norms. The incident took place, June 4, 2022.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of In re: News item published in Pragativadi dated 04.06.2022 titled “Huge Explosion at Chemical Company in Gujarat’s Vadodara” dated 05/07/2022.

Proceedings have been initiated in this matter in the light of media report to the effect that there was an explosion in Deepak Nitrite factory in Vadodara, Gujarat resulting in injuries to seven workers on account of inhaling the smoke and shifting of 700 people living in the area.

Proceedings have been initiated based on media report that seven persons died and four sustained injury after a boiler explosion in the factory of the project proponent in Bela Industrial area, Phase-II, Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
