Lucknow: The National Forest Rights Act Committee (NFRAC) formed jointly by the Union ministry of environment and forest and Union ministry of tribal affairs to review implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA) will visit west UP on May 31.
THE environment ministry has reconstituted the joint committee set up with the ministry of tribal affairs to assess the impact of Forest Rights Act on sustainable management of forest resources.
Initially constituted in February, the joint committee and its terms of reference had to be reworked given protests by civil society organisations and activists.
The government has constituted a joint committee of the ministries of Environment & forest and Tribal affairs to study the implementation of the Forest Right Act, 2006 and suggest necessary policy changes needed in the future management of the forestry sector. The committee aims to define the role of panchayati raj institutions such as the Gram Sabhas in forest conservation and regeneration.
A Joint Committee of the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) and Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been reconstituted to study in detail the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, including factors that are aiding and impeding its implementation. The Committee shall submit its report within six months.
New Delhi: Orissa government has come out in favour of the controversial Vedanta group with the BJD government in the state opposing the views of a central committee that bauxite mining in Lanjigarh were being carried out in violation of SC orders, the Forest Rights Act and the Forest Conservation Act.
This report includes the status report on implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 [for the period ending 28th February, 2010]. An updated status of State-wise implementation of the Act is given in Annexure-I.
