Says water below 100 feet is highly saline and non-potable

In a recent move, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to restrict the depth of borewells and tubewells in the city to 100 feet. This comes after the civic body asked the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, to
examine the underground water in the city.

The primary report submitted by CWPRS revealed that the underground water had high saline content and was, therefore, not fit for drinking.

The Municipal Corporation is all set to ease the traffic situation of the city with three new paid parking lots in Industrial Area, Phase I. This would ease the problem of parking that is presently being faced by visitors to the area.
The parking lots would come up near the poultry farm, behind the dairy farm and near the parking area allocated for trucks. The parking lots have already become functional on a temporary basis. However, the final approval has been sought from the Finance and Contract Committee. The issue will be taken up during the meeting to be held soon.

With the effects of global warming already being felt worldwide, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has jumped on the bandwagon to save the environment and to earn a few carbon credits while they are at it.

The civic body now plans to replace the bulbs on street lamps to light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. These new bulbs not only help conserve power but are also eco-friendly.
In a letter to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), BMC explained the benefits of the LED bulbs as compared to the sodium vapour ones being used now.
