The Urban Directorate, Government of Uttarakhand has prepared a draft State Level Action Plan for the management, handling and disposal of municipal solid waste in accordance with the Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000. The said draft action plan has been prepared with active consultation with all stake holders i.e.

It has been a fact that cities and towns are littered with garbage (MSW) and giving ugly look at many places in the city / town. Only important locations of a city or towns are maintained and leaving many other places chocking with uncollected waste.

The state of solid waste management in most of the urban areas of developing countries is now a major social and environmental challenge with the explosion of Population and the pace urbanization. In India in particular, the combined influence of poverty, population growth and rapid urbanization has tended to worsen the situation. In response to the waste challenge many developed countries have embarked upon ambitious environmental reforms, recording remarkable advances in best practices and sustainable management of MSW.
