A Public Interest Litigation was filed drawing attention to the pathetic condition of stretches of the National Highway 215/20 to an extent of 163 kms between Panikoili (starting point) in Jajpur district to Rimuli in Keonjhar district. In this stretch there are apparently three toll plazas at Hasanpur, Khantaghar and Banajodi at fairly short distance.

This application seeks remedial action to mitigate the impact of dust pollution arising out of dry sweeping of roads in metro cities. According to the applicant, dust pollution contributes to about 43% of the air pollution.

Additional affidavit on behalf of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the matter of Society for Protection of Culture (Chetna) Vs National Highway Authority of India & Others dated 12/11/2020.

The NGT in its order June 18, 2020 directed the NHAI to file compliance affidavit to provide information for the last one year on the extent of encroachments and encroachments removed within India. The affidavit should include information regarding provision and maintenance of green belt on either side of highways and survival percentage of trees/saplings planted.
