JAMMU, Aug 20: The State Government has sought a 13 per cent increase in free power to Jammu and Kashmir from the power projects being manned by the National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC) as a part of compensation for huge losses suffered by the State on account of Indus Water Treaty.

New Delhi: NHPC said on Monday it has commissioned its 120-mw Sewa-II hydroelectric project in Jammu &Kashmir, taking its installed capacity to 5,295 mw. The plant will generate 534 million units of energy in a 90% dependable year.

Darjeeling, July 19: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has decided to withdraw its 70-day-old strike at two NHPC project sites from tomorrow following an assurance from the central power agency that it will set up an engineering college in the hills.

AGP legislators Brindaban Goswami and Girindra Kumar Baruah today demanded that the Government should force the NHPC to stop construction of the Lower Subansiri Hydro Power project.

The ruling Congress Government in Assam has come under severe criticism for its dithering on the expert panel report that suggested complete halt of all construction works of the ongoing Lower Subansiri Hydro Power Project site at Gerukamukh.

The 2,000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydro Power project, being implemented by the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) is scheduled for completion in 2012.
