Concerned over the increasing incidents of forest fires in the state, the government has decided to put in place a satellite data-based advanced system to detect, monitor and effectively combat such blazes.

The Calcutta Municipal Corporation has finally decided to preserve water bodies after allowing more than 50,000 buildings to come up by filling up ponds.

Remote sensing satellites will be used by the state Government for monitoring drought in the state.

The satellite images, which are part of the Lokayukta report on the mining activities in Bellary, Chitradurga and Tumkur districts, indicate that there is rampant illegal mining by many companies.

The images are given by the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), Hyderabad and processed as well as analysed by Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre (KSRSAC).

After a delay of several months, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will finally start the much-publicised survey on the city's water bodies. The survey was supposed to end by February this year. The civic authorities however cited infrastructure problems for delaying the project. At present the survey will be carried out on an experimental basis in selected Wards of KMC.
