The High Court has directed the Tumkur-based mining company, Jyothi Brothers, to pay up for the ecological damages it has caused due to illegal mining in forest area.

TUMKUR: Rain has destroyed standing paddy crop in 10 villages in Tumkur district. Siddapura and surrounding villages in Kasaba hobli of Madhugiri taluk in the district received heavy rain combined with wind and hailstones on Saturday evening. The crop, which had turned a golden yellow and was due to be harvested, fell flat on the ground. The fields were inundated by rainwater.

The High Court has directed the State to stop mining activities at Shivasandra Village in Tumkur district. The Court was hearing a petition by Kondli Gram Panchayat which had challenged the mining lease of 509 acres of forest land to Chennakeshava Reddy by the State.

Every politician makes it a point to take an oath by Bhagiratha to get water to the district. In the current election too, water plays an important role.

The present work is aimed at assessing the water quality index (WQI) for the groundwater of Tumkur taluk. This has been determined by collecting groundwater samples and subjecting the samples to a comprehensive physicochemical analysis.

The High Court has issued an injunction against mining at Chikkanayakanahalli forest area in Tumkur district.

Hearing a public interest litigation by Basavaraj C S and six others, residents of Hosabeedi Chikka nayakanahalli, the division bench comprising Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V G Sabhahit, issued this injunction.

Tumkur Taluk is located in the southeastern corner of Karnataka state between 13o 06'30" to 13o 31' 00" North latitude and 76o 59' 00" to 77o 19' 00" East Longitude. The Taluk spreads over an area of 1043 sq.km falling within the semiarid region and frequently facing water scarcity as well as quality problems.
