JORHAT, July 16: As many as 37,500 new jobs have been created for the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) schemes in the State. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who inaugurated the NREGA schemes for Jorhat district at an official function held at Kalakunj public hall at Borholla in Titabor subdivision last weekend, said that the posts of gram rojgar sahayaks and nayaks would fulfil the employment needs of the rural youths.

Kurnool, July 16: The District Water Management Agency (Dwma) project director, Mr Wilson Babu, issued orders on Wednesday suspending 43 employees for irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). He also removed 70 masons. Mr Wilson Babu inspected the NREGS office in Atmakur and found that there was variance in records amounting to about Rs 7 lakh. He suspended an assistant project officer (APO), seven technical and 14 field assistants as they failed to give proper explanation relating to the variance.

Nepal posted economic growth of 4.7 percent in producers' price -- highest in seven years -- in 2007/08, but failed to check rise in unemployment, which went up contrary to general expectations due to a sharp shrinkage in the manufacturing sector. The Himachal Pradesh government today cleared nine new industrial projects, bringing in additional investment of nearly Rs 1,095 crore in the state, which will mostly be concentrated in the industrial belts of Solan, Sirmaur and Una districts. The proposals were cleared at a meeting of the state-level single window clearance and monitoring authority, held here this afternoon. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who is also chairman of the authority, and also holds industrial charge, presided over the meeting.
