VIRUDHUNAGAR: Residents of ward 21 of Virudhunagar town have complained of sewage mixing with drinking water supplied through pipeline.

The residents fumed that drinking water was being supplied only two times a month in the town.

And even that little water was not usable for any purpose, a resident said.

To mark World Environment Day; 11.87 lakh saplings given

SIVAKASI: The stage is set for a mass sapling planting in Virudhunagar district on Saturday planned on the occasion of World Environment Day. The district administration has distributed 11.87 lakh saplings to individual houses and private lands.

VIRUDHUNAGAR district is all set for a massive tree planting drive to celebrate World Environment on June 5.

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The district administration has formed one distribution centre for every 25 houses to enable smooth mass planting of saplings planned on June 5.

In a statement, the Collector, Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan, said that all the saplings would be moved to the distribution centres by June 2. People have been asked to dig up the pits by May 30 to plant saplings.

Virudhunagar worst hit; funds for other districts after getting report

CHENNAI: The government on Thursday sanctioned Rs. 18 crore from the Calamity Relief Fund to overcome the drinking water shortage in 10 districts. Virudhunagar, Tiruvallur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Villupuram, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Dindigul and Namakkal districts will be benefited.

VIRUDHUNAGAR: A section of owners of farm lands have opposed to a move to acquire their land to set up a SIPCOT complex near here.

In a memorandum given to the Deputy Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, one of the farmers, K. Gopalsamy of Erichanatham said that his family has held 1.52.0 hectares of farm land for the past 50 years. They have been cultivating cotton, maize and pulses.

It has issued show cause notice to the plant seeking explanation as to why criminal action should not be initiated against it.
