Judgement of the Supreme Court of India regarding mob violence and protests against cultural programmes and establishments, 01/10/2018
Judgement of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Kodungallur Film Society & Others Vs Union of India & Others dated 01/10/2018. The petitioners have filed the present writ petition on 25th January, 2018, in the backdrop of mob violence, protests and demonstrations which erupted across the nation in the recent past, especially against cultural programmes and establishments and the ensuing damage to public and private properties arising out of such violence.
Supreme Court directs that "the person/persons who has/have initiated, promoted, instigated or any way caused to occur any act of violence against cultural programmes or which results in loss of life or damage to public or private property either directly or indirectly, shall be made liable to compensate the victims of such violence." The Apex Court further directs that the Central and State Governments implement the recommendations made in the Judgement as expeditiously as possible.
