Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding water pollution from the CETP, at industrial area Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, 29/10/2021
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Sumitra Devi Vs CPCB dated 29/10/2021.
The matter related to remedial measures against water pollution from the CETP, at industrial area Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. An application was filed by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board for execution of the NGT order, December 12, 2017 directing the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) and the CETP operating society at industrial area Bhiwadi, Rajasthan to take remedial measures against water pollution from the CETP. It is submitted that the authorities failed to perform their duties and order of the NGT resulting in stagnation of untreated effluents and domestic sewage affecting the inhabitants in and around the border of Rajasthan and Haryana, particularly in Dharuhera in Haryana.
The NGT said that the affidavit filed on behalf of the SPCB is quite vague and does not fully address the issue of remedial action against the violations noted in the order of the NGT and even the report filed by the Joint Committee through the CPCB. The NGT directed the constitution of a joint committee to prepare an action plan for restoration of the environment. The Committee will also oversee execution of the action of plans, with the assistance of concerned Departments, District Magistrates or any other agencies.
