Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding farmer suicides in India, 27/03/2017

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Citizens Resource & Action Initiative (CRANTI) Vs State of Gujarat & Others dated 27/03/2017 regarding farmer suicides in India. P.S. Narasimha Additional Solicitor General stated before the Apex Court that the Central Government is in the process of formulating a line of action to be adopted by the State Governments, to deal with the issue. He however states, that since agriculture is a subject which falls in List II of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, the actual implementation of the proposals being finalised by the Central Government, will have to be at the level of individual State Governments.

Court gives the Central Government four weeks' time to place before the Court the line of action which the Central Government proposes for adoption by the State Governments, for dealing with the serious consequences of farmer suicides.
