Banning spam

UK Ban

The uk government has proposed a crackdown on the much-hated menace of e-mail spam. It intends to check those indulging in the insidious practice of mass e-mailing unsolicited material, with tough new stipulations on how personal e-mail data can be used. The European Union has already sought to make spamming illegal from October.

The uk government plans to capitalise on this law by creating a legal framework by that time. It is estimated that spam makes up 40 per cent of e-mails sent worldwide. The uk government will now require businesses to obtain consent from receiving parties before spamming them. The right to be included in subscriber directories of web sites will also rest with individuals.
