Bird flu alert sounded in Siliguri
With a bird flu alert being sounded at the Indo-Bengal border, the city of Siliguri in West Bengal's Darjeeling district has reasons to worry. More than 2,500 chicken deaths have been reported from a poultry farm here.
Chicken had been dying in the Raj Aziz Poultry Farm at Patharghata village in Matigara on the outskirts of Siliguri since May 3, 2007. People had complained to the local administration after a bad odour filled the area that was coming from the large number of chicken carcasses. The carcasses have been sent to Kolkata for testing.
